This collection includes names of Jews in Germany who were victims of persecution during the Nazi era. When available a record will include first name, surname and maiden name, date of birth and birthplace, place of residence, dates and locations of prison terms, date of emigration stating country of destination, points of departure with departure date and destination, and date and place of death.<br><br>In January 1933, approximately 522,000 Jews by religious definition lived in Germany. Over half of these individuals, emigrated during the first six years of the Nazi dictatorship, leaving approximately 214,000 Jews in Germany proper on the eve of World War II. By early 1939, thousands of Jews were interned in concentration camps following the mass arrests in the aftermath of Kristallnacht (Night of the Broken Glass) in November 1938. By the end of the war, an estimated 160,000 to 180,000 German Jews had been killed by the Nazi regime and their collaborators.
