This collection contains prisoner records from various prisons in Scotland, between the years 1791 and 1965. Records typically include the name of the prisoner, year and place of birth, residence, and the year and place of imprisonment.<br><br>Prisons in Scotland during the 19th and early 20th centuries were overcrowded and conditions were often poor. Prisoners were often required to perform hard labor and punishments could be severe. Children and women were also incarcerated, with particularly harsh conditions for child prisoners.
